The Teaching Profession
As a primary school teacher, you are faced with so many challenges that can lead to stress and sometimes burnout. I experienced burnout in my role as both classroom teacher and in leadership as Head of Key Stage 1.
From managing large classes with so many different educational needs and abilities to finishing medium term plans, pupil progress meetings preparation, marking books, planning lessons & preparing resources and of course external pressures, it’s no surprise that teachers are feeling overwhelmed with their workload.
I’ve been through it. I get it. Everything just feels too much. You start to feel like you can’t manage and that you are not doing a good job. The job that used to bring you reward and joy becomes relentlessly draining. Other elements of your life being are affected because of the stress and overwhelm at work. As a teacher myself, I can relate to all those day to day difficulties that teachers face. The printer doesn’t work, you don’t have a teaching assistant, you can’t go to the toilet because you can’t leave your class unattended, or one out of 5 of your children with SEND is having a meltdown.
This is where I can help. My coaching will help teachers prioritise their work, explore ways to manage their difficulties and reclaim their lost passion for teaching. We will look at how to feel empowered by making decisions both at work and at home and how to be efficient with their time.
I will work with teachers in identifying what it is they can do to feel happy and enthused as a teacher again. We will work together to find strategies that work for them, to cope with or to avoid reaching burnout. I am patient and I will listen. I will let teachers offload and they will be heard. I will not judge and I will offer a safe space. We will work together so that these struggling teachers can be the best teachers we know they can be.
